The water for the Pompton Lakes System is supplied by ground water pumped from three (3) wells.
The Pompton Lakes B
orough M.U.A. maintains approximately twenty-eight (28) miles
of water distribution mains ranging in size from 4 inches to 16 inches.
The Authority maintains a 1,000,000-gallon water storage tank
and a 50,000-gallon standpipe.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has completed and
issued the Source Water Assessment Report and Summary for this public water system,
which is available at www.state.nj.us/dep/swap or by contacting NJDEP's Borough

The source water assessment performed on our three wells determined the
following susceptibility for the seven contaminant categories and radon.

Pathogens--All three wells are rated medium susceptibility.

Nutrients--Two wells are medium susceptibility and the third was rated high.

Pesticides--All three wells rated at low susceptibility.

Volatile Organic Compounds--Two wells are low susceptibility and one well was rated susceptibility.

Inorganics--Two wells are medium susceptibility and the third was high.

Radionuclides--All three wells are medium susceptibility.

Disinfection By-product Precursors--All three wells are medium susceptibility.

Radon--One well was rated at medium susceptibility and the other two were rated at high.
